Beauty of the Unplanned

April 11, 2012

A little girl was wearing a fancy dress, a gift from her aunt. We didn’t have plans so we found a local playground. I was compelled to document the beauty of it. The carefree spontaneity. The echos of an otherwise empty playground. The little person climbing big stairs. The juxtaposition of a well-used playground and an over-dressed little girl, my Flowergirl. All of it, poetry. A beauty beyond conventional description.

The world is poetry. Our task is only to express the feelings it evokes.

Some may think that a fancy dress shouldn’t be worn for playing, but she will grow out of the dress sometime this year. The photos will last forever. The dress has had its day. Worn well and well-worn.
